Bracket fungus
It was a welcome change this week to not be pulling
Himalayan Balsam! We were assisting Tony
Gillingham, IWC Tree Officer, with the management of the wildflower area at
Appley Park in Ryde. The grass had been
cut and so that the nutrients don’t return to the soil, we were asked to rake
off any cut material. Due to the hot,
dry summer there wasn’t too much to rake.
One of Tony’s colleagues was raising the canopy of a few trees and his
cut material and the raked off grass were put into a dead hedge. We then moved eastwards and raked off a more
challenging area which had been covered with brambles.
