Wednesday 14th May 2025 - Newclose County Cricket Ground, Newport GG #1030

 Terry's photos

The session this week was at Newclose County Cricket Ground. This followed on from the one a month ago. The charity run operation here holds various events and hosts cricket and non cricketing activities. We helped by giving visiting guests a good first impression by concentrating our efforts on the various beds around the entrance. Wishing them a good season!

Whilst there, Mark took the opportunity to check on the growth of the non-native weed 'Himalayan Balsam' Impatiens glandulifera  which we've been pulling during the summer months. They are as yet quite small. The one shown (awaiting photo) was the tallest found; most are still lurking under the cover of the nettles which are at their full height. We keep our fingers crossed there will be a noticeable reduction in numbers where we've previously concentrated efforts up stream!

Thank you to Mark for the editorial and Terry for the photos.

Wednesday 7th May 2025 - West Wight Sports Centre, Freshwater GG #1029

 Terry's photos

This week we returned to one of our old favourites – West Wight Sports Centre – for the annual tidy up of the beds and borders.  There is a significant amount of planting around the Sports Centre, particularly at the front, all of which needs timely attention.  We set to with loppers, secateurs, trowels, forks, brooms and barrows.  By the end of the session, as can be seen in Terry’s photos, a considerable amount of tidying up had been achieved.

Thank you to WWSC for the refreshments and to Terry for the photos.

AGM 2025 - after next week's session at Newclose Cricket Ground, the GG AGM will be held at PC's Cafe, Watergate Road - all welcome.
