Wed 30th Nov 2022. One Horse Field, Totland. GG # 912.

 Terry's Photographs.

This session was filmed for the Gift to Nature website.

These photos show the cut plant material being unloaded on
top of the hibernaculum to provide insulation for the hibernating reptiles.

Working at One Horse Field has become something of a pre-Christmas tradition for the Green Gym. As per usual, the task was to rake up the previously cut summer growth, making the area all ship shape for the coming winter. Although the weather was a little cooler than of recent, it did stay dry for the session.

Many thanks to Terry for taking the photographs this week.

Wed 23rd Nov 2022 - Merstone Station. GG # 911.

 Terry's Photographs.

This shows just how much rain has fallen recently..!

Does the GG stand for Garden Gnome..? 😂

That's a LOT of bags of grass cuttings..!

This week Team GG were out at the old Merstone Station, gathering up the pre-cut grass. Fortunately, the heavy rain showers the Island has been experiencing recently held off for the duration of the session although it does make the raking and bagging of the grass that much harder to do. You only have to look at the last photo above to see what a great job everyone did....well done all 👏.

Many thanks to Terry for taking the photographs. There is a rumour that next week's session might be out West Wight way, maybe One Horse (reindeer?) Field? Check your e-mails closer to the time folks.

Wed 16th Nov 2022 - Moorgreen Road Woodlands, Cowes. GG # 910.

 Terry's Photographs.

Once again we found ourselves back at this Cowes location, continuing the work GG has done to give access to this woodland. This time we were tasked to open up the original fencing from the pavement, building steps where needed and to complete the final stretch from the woods to the road. Although there were a few short, sharp showers the forecasted heavy rain held off until the session was completed.

Many thanks to the church helpers who supplied us with tea & coffee and Terry for taking the photographs.

A final note from Mark.

This photo sent to Mark from Pete (one of the organisers) with the following....

Job done, cheers for all the help from GG.

Mark did mention that we might be at Merstone Station next week but this depends on the grass being cut before Wednesday...so please check your emails closer to the time 👍.

Wed 9th Nov 2022 - Haseley Manor, Arreton. GG # 909.

Terry's Photographs.

A common darter.

A note from Mark.

Back in February and March we paid a few visits to this week's venue,Haseley Manor. The Manor has an adjacent nature reserve, where we are working again tomorrow. This area will be passed to the charity PTES in due course. It is a mix of woodland and pond habitats, all on low lying terrain so certainly a week to wear your wellies!

Many thanks to Terry for taking the photographs.
