Wed 3rd Aug 2022 - Moorgreen Road Woodlands, Cowes. GG # 895.

Some of the litter picked up.

Mark's Photographs.

This week, Green Gym returned to the Moorgreen Woodland site in Cowes to continue with the work started earlier this year. Additional steps were added to the sloping areas, allowing easier access around the woodland walk pathway and boundary fencing repaired. Although the numbers of GGmers attending was somewhat less than normal, excellent progress was made in the warm, salutary, conditions.
Many thanks to the volunteers from the adjacent church who made tea and coffee for the tea break 👍.

Thanks to Mark for his photographic contribution.

Wed 27th July 2022 - Nansen Hill, Ventnor. GG # 894.

Terry's Photographs.

The butterfly pics are both of a female Common Blue.

Tea break with an outstanding view.

This week GG was back to a site we have visited several times in the past, Nansen Hill. This time was to try and eradicate  some more of the dreaded Ragwort. A steep climb but worth it for the views across Sandown Bay towards Culver.

Many thanks to Terry for the photographs.

Wed 20th July 2022 - Stone Farm, Blackwater. GG # 893.

 Terry's Photographs.

As can be seen from the above photographs - Green Gym's battle against the pesky plants continues at a pace..! This week it was back to the Blackwater area to resume the fight against Himalayan Balsam. The importance of this task can been seen by the size, height and density of the plants. It is doubtful that we will ever eradicate every last pesky plant but...as they say...every little helps 😊. Although the weather was sunny and warm, the record breaking scorching temperatures of the last few had finally expired 🌞.

Many thanks to Terry for taking the photographs.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend this session so unable to write the editorial 😞. I will mention that it was one of the hottest days of the year and there was a level 3 heat alert issued by the Met Office.... so a VERY well done to all those who did attend 👏.

Many thanks to Terry for taking the photographs.

Wed 6th July 2022 - Merstone Stream, Blackwater. GG # 891.

Terry's Photographs.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this session so unable to write the editorial. This is taken from Mark's e-mail that gave us the instructions for the day.

This week it is back to Birchmore Pond in Blackwater as I said before on what is technically the Merstone Stream rather than the Medina. Parking is along the verge of Birchmore Lane near Birchmore Pond.

We were here a couple of weeks ago and the Himalayan Balsam here is very noticeably reduced thanks to our efforts last year. That said there are certainly pockets of the weed to tackle!  Long sleeves and trousers again for protection against nettles.  Wellies also a good idea so as to be able to stand in the cool water of the stream. Plus a stick for support!

Many thanks to Terry for his excellent photographs 👏.
